Introduction

The practice will be done incrementally, creating the necessary stages to obtain a functional PID:

1. A subtracting stage, to obtain the error.
2. A multiplier stage, using it after the error, will give us the proportional part of the PID.
3. An integral stage, in parallel with the multiplier, will give us the integrating part of the PID.
4. A derivative stage, in parallel with the other two, will give us the derivative part of the PID.
5. Finally, a PI/PID will be connected to the motor and configured to provide in-position control of a direct current (DC) motor.

Each stage will be verified using a signal generator, an oscilloscope and the position signal obtained from a servo motor, varying from one to the other, depending on what is being observed.

Objectives

The specific objectives of this practice are the following:

• Make the connection by stages of a PID.
• Gain solvency in handling an oscilloscope and a handheld multimeter.
• Understand the operation of each part of a PID and obtain data from the tests that allow us to know if it is working correctly.

Required Material

The laboratory kit with which you will work consists of the following components and instruments:

• The Home Electronics Laboratory Platform (HELP) card, whose main elements, for this practice, are the breadboard, the outputs for the oscilloscope, and the 5 V power supply, with or without switches.
• Hantek’s 3-in-1 instrument, including: multimeter, signal generator and oscilloscope.
• The DC motor (a Futaba S3030, in this case).
• Resistors, capacitors and operational amplifiers.
• The necessary cables to make the connection.
