Overview

A motor can be generally modelled by an inductor in series with a resistor. It operates, typically at 50Hz or 60Hz. The coils in a motor will cause the current to lag the voltage in such a device. This is inefficient and can cause issues for your electricity supplier.

Your task is to design and test a circuit that will increase the efficiency of the circuit.

Your report should address the following:

  1. How you approached the design of your circuit
  2. The change in power consumed
  3. The change in phase angle
  4. The current consumed
  5. Relevant graphs to demonstrate the improvements
  6. Constraints in your design
  7. Account for differences between actual and calculated results
